The ICAR-IIHR organised one day training programme on “New and improved varieties and technologies of ICAR-IIHR” at KVK, Chamarajanagar Karnataka on 29.11.2024 as part of SCSP programme of the institute. It was organized in collaboration with Department of Horticulture, Chamaraja Nagar, KVK Haradanahalli and Srininvasan Services Trust Karnataka Cluster. About 120 farmers participated in the programme.
Mr. Shiva Prasad, DDH, and Mr. Siddaraju, SADH, Chamarajnagar, Mr.Shashikantha, Field Director of TVS-Srinivasan Services Trust and Dr.Yogesha, Principal Coordinator, KVK, Chamarajnagar along with their whole team participated in the programme. There was a brief presentation on all the varieties/hybrids in Chilli, Tomato, Brinjal, Beans, and Peas etc. in vegetable crops, fruit crops viz., mango, guava, grapes, papaya etc. and flower and medicinal crops viz., rose, marigold, tuberose, China aster, Mucuna, Ashwagandha etc. and also on post-harvest technologies and other products like AMC, Vegetable special, Mango special, Neem soap etc. by Dr. B. Balakrishna, Dr.T.H. Singh, Dr.S.N. Bhagyashree and Dr.B. Mahesha. Dr. T.K Behera, Director ICAR-IIHR, in his presidential address, thanked the farmers for making the country to raise from food starvation to food surplus and for their involvement in production of nutritionally rich horticultural crops for both domestic and export market. He also suggested the farmers to extensively use the institute varieties and technologies for getting higher productivity, quality and income from different horticultural crops.
After the training, there was a discussion on collaborative work and efforts of all the participated institutions with the Director about how to improve the livelihood of socio-economically deprived farmers groups, including providing drip irrigation facility to the farmers under SCSP programme of the DoH, Govt of Karnataka during the current financial year. As part of the programme, many inputs such as seeds of more than 15 vegetable varieties, grafts of 8 varieties of fruit crops, marigold and chilli seedlings, Arka products like neem soap, vegetable special, AMC, mulching sheets, plastic crates, traps and lures, coconut plants, etc., were distributed to the participants to ensure that the farmers adopt holistic package of the institute technologies, including disease resistant, high yielding varieties and hybrids.
