The institute organized ‘Poultry Farming for Income Augmentation Training’ from July 24 – 27, 2024. On the occasion of inauguration, Director Extension Education and SAMETI, Dr. Jitendra Kwatra said that poultry farming is a business which will help in increasing the income of farmers substantially. Using the poultry species developed by the university, farmers can increase their livelihood by 2-4 times by marketing both eggs and meat. Dr. B.D. Singh, Professor (Agronomy) and SAMETI Coordinator, along with welcoming the guests and participants present, discussed in detail about the various programs conducted by SAMETI, outline of trainings etc. He informed that in the training, the scientists of the College of Veterinary and Animal Science gave detailed information about various species of poultry – introduction, diet management and quality control in egg and meat laying poultry, backyard poultry farming, guinea fowl farming management, housing management of chickens, management of chicks and hatchlings, management of poultry and parasitic diseases in changing weather, disease management and vaccination in poultry, poultry farming at farmer level: problems and solutions, poultry farming management techniques and economic details, practical information related to poultry farming, poultry farming for increasing the income of farmers, problems and solutions related to poultry farming, processing and value addition of poultry products and major self-employment agriculture programs useful for farmers etc. For demonstration and experimental learning, the participants were taken on a tour of the university’s academic dairy and poultry farm, Nagla and other research centers. 31 departmental officers and progressive farmers from Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora and Pauri Garhwal districts participated in the training program. The contribution of Miss Jyoti Kanwal, Young Professional – II and Mr. Jagdish Chandra Bisht was commendable in completing the training program.
