Three days training programmes on “Trout Farm Management for the Fish Farmers” was organized under North East Hill activity by ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (ICAR-DCFR), Bhimtal in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Arunachal Pradeshat Mechuka,District Shi Yomi during 18- 20thJanuary 2023 at Conference Hall, Mechuka. Shri TapanDatta, DFDO Mechuka welcomed and introduced the Scientists Dr R. S. Haldar and Dr Amit Pande from ICAR-DCFR Bhimtal, Uttarakhand to conduct the training.
Mr Ozing Gao, District Planning Officer, District Shi-Yomi graced the inaugural function as the chief guest. During his address he welcomed the Scientists from ICARDCFR and commended their efforts to establish trout farming in Mechuka, along with DFDO in one of the remote places in the country. He stressed upon the tremendous potential of trout farming in Mechuka due to its enormous water resources and development of Mechuka as a tourist hotspot. He appreciated the training programme and urged the trainees for their active participation.
Twenty-six trout farmers of the region participated in the training programme. These beneficiaries have been provided trout raceways under centrally sponsored schemes PMMSY and RKVY by the Department of Fisheries, Arunachal Pradesh. During the training programme, the trout farmers were made aware about selection of suitable site, raceway construction, water quality, hatchery management, food and feeding, health management etc. Attention of the trout farmers was drawn towards the profitable income that could be generated from trout farming and seed production. The training was interactive as several question raised by trout farmers were answered satisfactorily by the experts.
Field demonstrations were also arranged for demonstrating the way of trout farming should be carried out. During the demonstration, the Scientists from ICAR-DCFR Bhimtal stressed upon proper feeding and regular cleaning of raceways which was necessary to prevent disease outbreak. The trainees actively participated in the field demonstrations held at Government Trout Farm, Dechengthan where the trout hatchery was established by ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The trainees were explained the operation of the latest equipment, the vertical incubators and nursery rearing tanks provided by ICAR-DCFR. The trainees were also taken to different private farms owned by Sri Dorjee KhanduChukla, village Dorjeeling; Phurba Naksang,village Degengaon andSmtYamoti Pegyor, Upper Barangangand others. During the valedictory function, the participants were provided the certificate of attendance.
