Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, conducted a vocational training programme on Value Addition of Cereals and Pulses, from August 19 to August 23, 2024.
The course, attended by 20 trainees, was organized under the guidance of Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) at KVK, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.Dr. Rajinder Kaur, Assistant Professor of Home Science at KVK, led both theoretical and practical sessions, teaching participants how to process raw cereals and pulses into a variety of modern convenience value-added products. She emphasized the significance of value addition in extending the shelf life of these staples and ensuring a consistent supply of nutritious food year-round. Participants were trained in making a range of nutritious and delicious recipes, including different types of papads (such as rice, sabudana, urad dal, potato, and mango papad) and sprout salads.
Additionally, they learned the traditional preparation of wadiyan made from urad dal and moong dal. These demonstrations highlighted the potential for creating diverse and marketable food products from cereals and pulses.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Rajinder Kaur encouraged the trainees to adopt value addition as a sustainable income source in agriculture and expressed her gratitude to all participants for their active involvement in the training programme.
