On August 6, 2024, PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), organized a training and awareness programme on “Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency” at its campus.
Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Hoshiarpur, welcomed the experts and farmers, emphasizing the importance of energy and water conservation practices and the need for community participatory campaigns for their success. Experts from PEDA, BEE, and KVK delivered various technical lectures during the event.
Sh. Karan Kandhari, Programme Coordinator at PEDA, shared details about using solar photovoltaic pumps for energy saving, including the selection, installation, and operation of submersible pumps. He also discussed different solar energy gadgets for domestic and agricultural use.
Dr. Hari Kumar Singh, Energy Expert from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, deliberated on various solar energy gadgets that can be used in agriculture and allied sectors, persuading farmers to install these to conserve energy. He also shared energy conservation schemes offered by both Central and State Governments.
Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) at KVK Hoshiarpur, stressed the need to adopt micro irrigation systems for conserving underground water resources. He warned about the depletion of underground water and its impending disastrous impact on agriculture and society if water is not conserved urgently.
The event saw participation from progressive farmers in the area, including Sh. Surjit Singh from Chaggran, Sh. Bakhshish Singh from Haripur, Sh. Jaswinder Singh from Nasran, Sh. Malkit Singh from Burobari, Sh. Hardeep Singh from Dhakkon, Sh. Sarabjit Singh from Jandoli, Sh. Malkit Singh from Saidpur, Sh. Mandeep Singh from Chitton, Lambardar Sh. Mohinderpal Bansal, and Sh. Lalkar Singh Lalli from Khanpur. These farmers engaged in fruitful discussions with the experts, enriching the training programme.
