Organized at Freshwater Fish Farm (FWFF), Balabhadrapuram, ICAR-CIFE, Kakinada A 5-days Skill Development Training Program was organized on “Breeding and Seed Production of Indian Major Carps” by the Freshwater Fish Farm (FWFF), Balabhadrapuram, ICAR-CIFE, Kakinada Centre from 19 to 23 August 2024 for the designated community under the SCSP fund. The program gave trainees hands-on experience in carp Broodstock management, brooder selection, induced breeding, hatchery, and seed production operations. Dr N. Shamna, Scientist and In-Charge, FWFF, explained the importance of Broodstock management, feed management, and models in small-scale farmers hatchery operations. Practical cum theory classes on water quality assessment, live feed and nursery pond management were done by Mrs. Shobha Rawat, Scientist, FWFF, Balabhadrapuram. Additionally, participants got a separate session on farm-made feed preparation and PIT tagging of IMCs. A total of 20 SC candidates (9 Ladies and 11 Males) from different parts of the Kakinada, East and West Godavari districts participated in the program. The program was organized under the guidance of Dr. Ravishankar, C.N. Director &Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, Dr. S. Jahageerdar, Nodal Officer for Centers, Dr. Munil Kumar, Principal Scientist & SCSP Nodal officer. The program was coordinated by Dr. Shamna N, and Mrs Shobha Rawat. A manual on “Breeding and seed production of carps” was distributed to all participants.
