The Aquaculture Division of ICAR-CIFE organized a Skill development program titled “Fish and Prawn Farming” from June 13th to June 27th, 2023. This program, spanning 15 days, was sponsored by National Agriculture Innovation Fund – Agri Business Incubation (ABI) of ICAR-CIFE. Dr. Sukham Munilkumar, Principal Scientist & Former HoD, led the training, with coordination from Dr. Kapil Sukhdhane, Dr. Madhuri Pathak, Dr. Thongam I Chanu, and Dr. Prem Kumar of the Aquaculture Division. The training program targeted fourteen participants, including two females and twelve male students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Bihar colleges. The program emphasized practical exposure and encompassed 28 theory classes and 21 practical sessions. As part of the training, the participants visited Saphale shrimp farm and Powai lake to gain field experience. Pre- and post-training evaluations were conducted to assess the participants’ knowledge, revealing a 60-70% improvement across the topics covered.
The trainees provided positive feedback, expressing complete satisfaction with the course and rating it as “Excellent.” During the Valedictory Program, Dr. C. N. Ravishankar, Director of ICAR-CIFE, interacted with each participant individually, inquiring about their plans for applying the knowledge gained from the training. He encouraged the participants to maintain their connection with CIFE and engage with the resource persons for future clarifications and potential collaborations. Dr. N. P. Sahu, Joint Director, ICAR-CIFE congratulated all the trainees for the successful completion of the programme and advised them to start their own fish farming in bihar. Dr. Ravishankar commended the Course Director, Coordinators, and the entire team for the successful completion of the training program.
