Skill development program ‘Gyan Shala’ on Synthetic Peptide Biology inaugurated at IVRI .A ten day ‘Gyan Shala’ skill development training program on the subject of Synthetic Peptide Biology started in the Peptide and Peptidomimetics Research Laboratory of the Department of Veterinary Biotechnology, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izzatnagar. The course director of this program is Principal Scientist Dr. Sameer Srivastava. In the inaugural ceremony of this skill development workshop, the course director welcomed the guests and presented a brief report on the aims and objectives of organizing such programmes. He informed that this workshop has been organized to hone the technical skills of the Masters and Doctoral students of IVRI Deemed University. He also informed that this skill development program has been named Gyan Shala. In this program a series of skill development workshops will be organized for the benefit of the students so that they can learn various modern technologies to be used in their research work. In this series, the first workshop is on Synthetic Peptide Biology which has been organized from September 21 to 30, 2023. 16 students from different subjects are participating in this Gyan Shala.
In this workshop students will be provided with knowledge about the basic techniques used for synthesis, characterization and application of synthetic peptides. To pass this skill development course, students are required to attend a minimum of 15 contact hours. In this series, a second workshop in the field of ‘Good Laboratory Practices’ is proposed to be organized in the month of October.
Dr. Triveni Dutt, Director and Vice Chancellor of IVRI, was the chief guest in this inaugural program. Speaking on the occasion, he congratulated the First Course Director Dr. Sameer Srivastava and Course Coordinators Dr. Sonal and Dr. Sabapati and extended their good wishes for starting this new initiative for skill development of Masters and Doctoral students. He emphasized that skill development of youth is one of the top priorities of the government and a separate Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has been set up for this purpose. He highlighted the various activities being carried out under skill development programs in the country and also urged all the heads of divisions to motivate their faculty members to design such skill development programs for the benefit of the students. He also suggested that the laboratories which are providing such type of training programs can be designated as skill development centers and we should work to create more centers of excellence for skill development. He also expressed satisfaction over the course material prepared for and urged the participants to take maximum advantage of the expertise and experience of Dr. Sameer and his team. On this occasion, he also released flyers of the course material of both the Gyan Shala workshops. On this occasion, Joint Director (Cadre), Dr. KP Singh, Joint Director (Academic), Dr. SK Mandiratta and Joint Director (Research), Dr. SK Singh were also present and expressed their views. He motivated the young students to actively participate in the training program and congratulated the team for preparing such an important training program for the benefit of the students. The program was conducted by Dr. Sonal and vote of thanks was given by Senior Technical Officer Dr. Sabapati. Heads of departments and faculty members of various departments participated in this program.
