Two RKVY-RAFTAAR sponsored farmers training programs on Black pepper titled “Advances in production technology and nursery management in black pepper” on 15-2-24 “Sustainable and Futuristic Production Practices in Black Pepper” on 19-3-24 were conducted (&) at ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Regional Station, Appangala, Madikeri. Both events witnessed a remarkable turnout, with approximately 280 farmers in attendance from 10-12 districts of Karnataka and 2 districts of Kerala.
One of the most encouraging aspects of these training programs was the diverse participation. It was heartening to observe that a significant number of attendees were new to our training programs, with many hailing from non-traditional black pepper growing areas. This indicates a growing interest and awareness among farmers about adopting modern agricultural practices, and our efforts to reach out to newer demographics have been met with positive responses. Furthermore, it is worth noting that only a small fraction, approximately 10-12 farmers, attended both programs. The appreciation received from many farmers reaffirms the relevance and quality of the training sessions conducted. An exhibition showcasing the varietal diversity of black pepper and also the technologies developed by IISR was displayed on occasion of training programme.
