To augment the productivity and profitability from the traditional carp polyculture practice, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kolkata Centre initiated a pilot scale activity on species diversification by introducing new species such as Jayanti rohu, silver barb, bata, pabda and tengra for the first time in 20 farmer’s ponds in this area. This activity involving ‘farmers into research’ is being undertaken for 2-3 years under SCSP Scheme. The methods and results of the demonstration activity are being witnessed by farmers of this area through hands-on training programmes and this activity would motivate around 200 fish farmers of Jiranpur, Cooch Behar to enhance the fish production of the district. A total of 20 farmers including 7 women participated in the training and demonstration programme during 24-26 July, 2024.
