The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), under the aegis of the Dean College of Agriculture, organized a training programme on “Integrated Farming” at village Gureh near Jagraon, Ludhiana in which about 60 farmers participated.
Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, motivated the farmers to adopt crop diversification and PAU recommendations, emphasizing the importance of utilizing best practices in agriculture. It not only helped in minimizing input costs but also aimed at improving soil health, increasing yields, and ensuring sustainable farming, he added.
Dr SS Walia, Director, School of Organic Farming, highlighted the advantages of organic farming and motivated the farmers to adopt integrated farming system as a holistic approach to agriculture, allowing for better resource utilization and waste reduction.
Dr Dharminder Singh, Principal Scientist, asked the farmers to develop strong linkages with PAU. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining detailed farming records as a critical tool for improvement.
Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, Coordinator, RAWE Program, discussed various PAU Kisan Apps and the digital Kheti Sandesh. Besides, he told how to join the PAU Kisan Club and subscribe to the PAU Magazine.
Dr Maninder Kaur, Agronomist, informed the farmers about recommended wheat varieties, providing detailed insights on PBW 826 and PBW Biscuit 1, along with strategies to manage water stress effectively.
Dr Pushpinder Kaur Brar, Scientist Residue Analysis, educated the rural community on the safe and responsible use of pesticides to minimize residues on consumable vegetables, fruits, and cereals, ensuring the protection of pollinators and non-target organisms.
Students showcased various services of PAU by presenting detailed information at multiple exhibition stalls. Fateh Singh and Ruturaj coordinated the whole programme. At the event, PAU literature was also distributed among the farmers. Malwinder Singh, Sarpanch and Jaspreet Singh, Secretary and Narinderpal Singh, President Cooperative Society, were also present. The farmers who did not burn paddy straw for the last five years were too awarded prizes.
