The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a field day on “Direct Seeded Rice (DSR)” for which demonstrations have been laid on 83.5 acres in six villages of Sidhwan Bet block. These demonstrations were laid down under the project of RKVY “Screening of extension methodologies for strengthening diffusion dynamics of Direct Seeded Rice in Punjab”. A total of 60 farmers participated in the field day.
Dr Kuldip Singh, Head of the department, applauded the efforts of the farmers in coordinating to lay down these demonstrations on such a large scale. He also stressed that this resource conservation technology – DSR was need of the hour.
The Principal Investigator (PI) and the Co-PI of the project Dr Manmeet Kaur, Associate Professor and Dr L Mohapatra, Assistant Professor, Extension Education, lauded farmers for being eager to adopt new technologies recommended by PAU. They also apprised the farmers of various social issues to be addressed at the farm family level.
Dr Manpreet Khiva, Agronomist, and Dr Arshdeep Kaur, Entomologist, suggested various precautionary measures to be taken in DSR.
Dr Sherajit Singh, AEO, Bhundri, expressed thankfulness to the Department of Extension Education for adopting this area for laying down of Farmers’ Information Centre, PAU.
