The Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a “Training of Trainers on Paddy Straw Management to Control Straw Burning” for agriculture officers, agriculture development officers and AAEs of the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Punjab. Seventeen participants from Amritsar, Tarntarn, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Faridkot and Moga attended the training programme, which Dr Jaswant Singh, Director of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Punjab and Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, have decided to refresh under IEC activities.

Dr Mahesh Kumar Narang, Head of the department and the Course Director, welcomed the trainees. He spoke on the training mandates and motivated the trainees to create awareness among farmers regarding paddy residue management. Dr Narang further informed that four more such type of training programmes would be conducted in this month for the officials serving in other districts of the state.

Dr HS Sidhu, Principal Scientist; Dr Manpreet Singh, Senior Scientist; Dr Jasvir Singh Gill, Agronomist; Dr Aseem Verma, Scientist; Dr Apoorv Prakash, Scientist; Dr Baldev Dogra, Professor; Dr Simarjeet Kaur, Principal Agronomist and Dr Beant Singh, Principal Entomologist were the experts during the training programme. All the participants showed keen interest in the training and interactive session.

Dr Aseem Verma, Training Coordinator, said that the trainees were imparted knowledge about various in-situ- and ex-situ straw management technologies such as Happy Seeder, Smart Seeder, Super Seeder, Straw chopper-cum-spreader, Incorporation, Surface Seeder, Baling, etc. Trainees were also enlightened about weed and pest management knowledge in residue-managed fields, he told, while proposing a vote of thanks.
