PAU-KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar organized a Farmers Training Camp on ‘Cultivation of Sesame and Maize Crops’ at village Shahdra on July 12, 2024. Dr. Jaswinder Kumar, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, welcomed the farmers and shared significant information about the suitable time and method of sowing, besides imparting knowledge on weeds and nutrient management for sesame and maize crops. He also stressed on the need for judicious use of groundwater and need-based chemical fertilizer use on soil test basis in kharif season crops- paddy, basmati and maize.
Dr. Baljit Singh, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, discussed pest control in sesame and maize crops. He also gave detailed information on symptoms and control measures of major insect pests and diseases of paddy and basmati.
Post emergence weedicide – Laudis, pesticide for maize fall armyworm – Missile, seed of sesame variety – Punjab Til No. 2, and PAU literature were provided to the farmers during the course of demonstrations.
