In a proactive initiative to enhance agricultural practices, the PAU Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sangrur, affiliated with Punjab Agricultural University, organized 29.03.2024 a highly informative field day focused on using Surface Seeder for wheat cultivation. Held at the farm of S. Makhan Singh in Kaimpar village, the event saw enthusiastic participation from over 70 farmers.
Dr Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Sangrur, emphasized the significance of in-situ crop residue management, particularly highlighting the advantages of surface seeding techniques. He cautioned against ex-situ management practices, citing the potential nutrient depletion they entail.
During the event, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor (FMPE), provided detailed insights into the functionality of the Surface Seeder machine and essential precautions for its effective operation in the field. Dr. Rukinder Preet Singh Dhaliwal, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), illuminated to attendees the crucial aspects of weed, nutrient, and irrigation management in fields utilizing crop residue management techniques.
The experts present comprehensively and satisfactorily responded to farmers’ inquiries regarding issues such as pink stem borer incidence and weed control. The KVK team honored SADC Makhan Singh in recognition of his pioneering efforts in adopting the Surface Seeder technique for wheat sowing.
The event concluded with a visit to the demonstration plot, which garnered appreciation from all the farmers.
