Under the guidance of PAU Ludhiana, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ropar, conducted a 7-day poultry farming training programme spearheaded by Dr Satbir Singh, Deputy Director of KVK Ropar. Dr Aparna, Associate Professor of Animal Science, revealed that the initiative witnessed active participation from 62 rural youth, farmers, and farm women hailing from Ropar, SBS Nagar, and Ludhiana districts.
The training covered a spectrum of backyard and commercial poultry farming techniques. Through interactive sessions, attendees gained invaluable insights and practical skills crucial for successful poultry management and production enhancement. Topics included breed selection, housing infrastructure, brooding techniques, nutrition, disease management, and biosecurity protocols, all while prioritizing bird welfare and zoonosis prevention. Hands-on demonstrations on concentrate mixture preparation, identifying laying and non-laying birds, debeaking, and effective vaccination techniques enriched the learning experience. Additionally, participants enjoyed an enlightening exposure visit to complement their theoretical knowledge.
The programme culminated with an interaction between trainees and Dr Parvender Sheoran, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I. Dr Sheoran motivated them to take up poultry farming, given its potential to bolster the region’s prosperity and resilience. Dr Sheoran commended the participants for their acquired skills and expressed optimism regarding the transformative impact of KVK interventions on the agricultural landscape.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr Satbir Singh, who assured the trainees of ongoing support and guidance even after the end of the training programme.
