Under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana, KVK Ropar concluded a 15-day vocational training on Dairy Farming on May 27, 2025. Led by Deputy Director Training, KVK Ropar, the programme began on May 13, 2024, with 35 participants from Ropar, Mohali, SBS Nagar, and Sangrur.

The training, monitored by Director ATARI Dr. Parvender Sheoran on May 23, 2024, included evaluations of demonstrated technologies. Dr. Sheoran interacted with trainees, highlighting critical issues such as drug resistance and zoonotic diseases.

Dr. Aparna, Associate Professor of Animal Science and technical coordinator, explained that the training combined hands-on techniques, method demonstrations, workshops, exposure visits, and lectures. Topics covered included basic feeding, breeding, health management, biosecurity, in vitro fertilization, waste management through vermicomposting and biogas plants, health monitoring, first aid practices, milk quality assessment, and azolla cultivation.

A live demonstration of AI-based smart collars by the IIT Ropar team (AWADH project) provided significant insights for the trainees.

In the concluding session, the Deputy Director emphasized breed improvement through IVF and body condition scoring for progressive dairy farming. He also discussed government facilities and the differences between A1 and A2 milk proteins. The session ended with congratulations to the successful trainees and a promise of continued support from KVK.
