Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Budh Singh Wala, Moga, organized a village-level awareness camp on crop residue management in village Langeana Nawan on September 11, 2024. The camp was held under the project “Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for In-Situ Management of Crop Residue in Punjab-Moga,” as sanctioned by the Director of ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana.
Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor (PFE), inaugurated the camp by welcoming the farmers and introducing the various technological interventions recommended by PAU for the efficient and economical management of paddy straw.
Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), provided insights on managing insect pests and diseases in rabi crops, while Dr. Manpreet Jaidka, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), delivered a lecture on improved production technologies for rabi crops like wheat and potato, emphasizing the non-burning methods for paddy straw management.
Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), discussed the alternative uses of paddy straw, such as fodder after urea treatment and bedding material for animals, to promote good health and maintain milk yield.
Dr. Amandeep Singh Brar, Associate Director (Training), KVK Moga, highlighted the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in disseminating eco-friendly agricultural techniques, focusing on crop residue management and food processing. He also elaborated on the technical aspects of surface seeding-cum-mulching techniques and proper machine operations.
During the camp, literature on crop residue management, surface seeding-cum-mulching techniques, and weed management in wheat was distributed to farmers. The participants actively engaged with the KVK team, discussing practical challenges they face in crop residue management.
