Punjab Agricultural University-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (PAU-KVK) at Gurdaspur organised a Training Programme on IPM in Basmati in village Behlolpur (Block: Dera Baba Nanak) in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare & National Centre for Integrated Pest Management (NCIPM) today, July 23, 2024. The event saw the participation of 170 farmers.

Sh. Satwinder Singh (AEO) conducted the stage on this occasion and Dr Baljinder Singh Bhullar, Agriculture Officer, welcomed the scientists and farmers. He also motivated the farmers to participate in different training programmes organized by the KVK from time to time, and thereby, reap multiple benefits.

The Training Programme was packed with informative discourses by scientists/experts who delved on important matters in their ensuing discussions. Dr Anil Khokher, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) discussed weed management in kharif crops and also dilated upon efficient residue management techniques. Dr Satwinderjit Kaur, Associate Professor (Soil Science) delivered a lecture on the importance of soil health and the role of balanced fertilization in sustainable crop production. Dr Rajwinder Kaur Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) provided valuable insights on the IPM and IDM techniques in paddy/basmati. Dr Raghbindra, Entomologist, NCIPM, discussed sustainable agriculture production and adopting non-chemical methods for insect pest management.

Dr HS Randhawa proposed a vote of thanks to all the dignitaries and participants for their participation and for the successful execution of the programme. PAU farm literature was also distributed among the farmers to raise their awareness on the current practices in sustainable agriculture. Sh Tarlochan Singh (AEO), Sh. Jagmohan Singh (AEO), Sh Puneet Dhillon (ASI) and other staff members of the state department were also present during the event and extended their cooperation in its smooth conduct.
