Under the guidance of the Director of Extension Education at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and the supervision of the Deputy Director (Training) at PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bathinda, an awareness camp on ‘Good Agricultural Practices for Cotton Crop was organized to empower cotton farmers in Teona. The event, held on June 13, 2024, aimed to educate 30 farmers on sustainable cotton cultivation techniques.
The training included a series of informative lectures by agricultural experts. Dr G.S. Dhillon, Professor (Extension Education), discussed good agricultural practices and marketing strategies, providing farmers with the essential knowledge to enhance productivity and profitability. Dr. Vinay Pathania, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), focused on integrated pest and disease management, offering strategies to effectively control pests and diseases.
Dr. Sarvpriya Singh, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), delivered a lecture on managing heat stress in vegetable crops, while Dr. Tejbir Singh Buttar, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), conducted a session on Integrated Nutrient Management. These sessions aimed to equip farmers with the latest techniques and information to improve their farming practices.
A highlight of the training was a field visit, during which farmers learned practical skills such as survey methods and pest identification. This hands-on experience helped farmers better understand and manage their challenges.
During the event, experts also surveyed the cotton crop in nearby villages, including Chugge Kalan, Chugge Khurd, Multania, Baho Yatri, and Jhumba. The survey revealed a very low incidence of whiteflies and no incidence of thrips and jassids.
The training received positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the valuable insights gained.
