he Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Amritsar successfully conducted a vocational training course on “Value Addition and Preservation of Summer Fruits and Vegetables” from June 24 to July 2, 2024.
The course attracted 13 enthusiastic participants eager to learn valuable food preservation skills. Dr. Bikramjit Singh, Associate Director (Training) at KVK, inaugurated the course, highlighting its role in enhancing food safety, reducing wastage, and maintaining nutritional value.
Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Home Science), led sessions on various preservation methods, emphasizing their importance in both household and commercial settings.
Mrs. Sukhwinderbir Kaur demonstrated practical techniques for making pickles, squashes, ketchup, sharbats, and jams from summer fruits and vegetables. Participants engaged in hands-on training to gain experience in producing high-quality products from seasonal produce.
Dr. Manpreet Kaur also delivered a lecture on labeling, packaging, and marketing products as per FSSAI regulations. On the concluding day, participants visited Ashoka’s Food Processing Unit in Amritsar, observing practical demonstrations of preserved food products. The participants appreciated KVK’s efforts to impart practical skills for entrepreneurship.
