Dr. Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Additional Director Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri, Sangrur today on 10.12.2024. During which he inspected the technology park established at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, agricultural research experiments, training platform of various techniques for stubble management, home vegetable and fruit garden, vermicompost unit, CRM machinery bank, seed processing unit, soil testing laboratory, home science lab, agricultural literature sales center and seed production area of various crops and vegetables. He also reviewed the various extension activities being carried out by Krishi Vigyan Kendra and appreciated the efforts being taken by Krishi Vigyan Kendra. He also gave valuable suggestions to the experts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra to work more diligently and perform better.
On this occasion, while presiding over a special training program on “Proper cultivation of Onion, Seed Production and Safe Storage” by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur, he emphasized on the cultivation and processing of vegetables for agricultural diversification. He said that onion is an important crop. By successfully cultivating it, farmers can earn more along with crop diversification. He also motivated the farmers to plant nutritious vegetable and fruit gardens to meet their domestic needs. Apart from this, he also strongly appealed to the farmers to adopt integrated farming system to increase their farm income. He also asked the farmers to consume good food for good health. Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri Sangrur, welcomed Additional Director Extension Education Dr. Tarsem Singh Dhillon and the farmers and shed light on the outline of the training program. He also shared information about various trainings and other activities being conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra under the guidelines of PAU to serve the farmers.
Dr. Ravinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur shared successful methods of preparing onion seedlings.
Dr. Jiffanveer Singh, Vegetable Breeder, Department of Vegetable Science, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana shared information about proper production and storage techniques of onion. He motivated the farmers to prepare quality onion seeds and explained about the appropriate techniques for seed production of onion varieties recommended by Punjab Agricultural University.
Dr. Gurbir Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur informed the farmers about the prevention of diseases and pests in onion crop.
Around 30 vegetable farmers from different villages participated in this training course and got their queries answered by the experts.
Dr. Dhillon honored S. Rajinder Singh, a progressive farmer of village Fatehgarh Chhanna, who took training from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur, for starting vegetable nursery work.
Dr. Sunil Kumar, Dr. Vitasta and Dr. Rukinder Preet Singh were also present during the entire program and visit.
