The Farm Advisory Service Center (FASC) of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Sangrur organized an awareness camp and demonstration on managing sulfur deficiency in gobhi sarson using bentonite sulfur at Bhaini Ganduan village. Over 30 farmers participated in the event, where experts provided technical insights into the importance of sulfur for the growth of oilseed crops and alternatives to DAP fertilizer in wheat.
Dr. Ashok Kumar, District Extension Specialist (Soil Science), discussed the adverse effects of crop residue burning, including the loss of key nutrients like nitrogen and sulfur and the release of harmful gases. He also highlighted the use of in-situ paddy straw management for wheat sowing with equipment like Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Smart Seeder, and low-cost surface seeders.
The event featured an exhibition of PAU literature, gram seeds, mineral mixtures, bypass fat, and UMMB (Urea Molasses Mineral Blocks). Participants also had the opportunity to purchase the wheat consortium to enhance soil health. The field of progressive farmer S. Bhagwan Singh was visited for practical insights, and the camp was attended by Gurdeep Singh, Sarpanch of Bhaini Ganduan, Satgur Singh, and two Ph.D. students from PAU.
