The Ludhiana Chapter of Indian Society of Soil Science (ISSS) conducted ‘The Indian Society of Soil Science Zonal Award’ for North Zone and ‘ISSS Best Doctoral Research Presentation Award’ in the Department of Soil Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Indian Society of Soil Science Zonal Awards (one for each of North, East, South and West Zone) are exclusively meant for holders of Master’s degree in Soil Science; they give best presentation of research work carried out by them during the programme. Indian Society of Soil Science Best Doctoral Research Presentation Award is given annually to an individual in recognition of the best presentation of doctoral research work done in Soil Science in India. Presentations of these awards were entrusted to its Ludhiana Chapter by the Society headquarters at New Delhi.
At the outset, Dr Rajeev Sikka, Principal Soil Chemist and Secretary, Ludhiana Chapter of ISSS, introduced the judges and contestants. Judging committee comprised Dr Dhanwinder Singh, President, Ludhiana Chapter of ISSS; Dr Pragati Pramanik, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi; Dr YV Singh, BHU, Varanasi; Dr Kiran Khokhar, Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar and Dr Rajeev Sikka. Four candidates each for ISSS Zonal Award and ISSS Best Doctoral Research Presentation made their presentations. For both the awards, out of four presentations, three were made in person and one was made online.
Ms Saloni Tripathy from Indian Agricultural Research Institute was adjudged the winner of ISSS Zonal Award 2023 for the North zone. Drs Abinash Das and Avijit Singh were nominated for the Best Doctoral Research Presentations elected at the North zone level in the preliminary round and will then be invited to contest in the final round among selected candidates from each of the four zones of India, which will be organized by ISSS during its Annual Convention of ISSS going to be held at ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal during October 3-6, 2023. The winners will be honored with a citation and a gold-plated medal, while all the other contestants in the final round will be given commendation certificates at the concluding session of the annual convention.
