Krishi Vigyan Kendra of PAU, Patiala organized a five-day training course on multipurpose use of floral embroidery and soap-surf making from 24 to 30.04.2024. 17 rural women and girls from different villages of district Patiala such as Shutrana, Nabha, Mundkhera, Dharamkot, Galvatti, Masingan participated in this course. Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur, Professor (Plant Science) explained the technique of making Phulkari embroidery for garment decoration and technical information on making various decorative items like dupattas, potli purses, wallets and scenery. The students also enthusiastically learned about soap and surf making at home. Dr. Vandana Kanwar, Associate Professor, Manav Vikas gave a motivational speech during the training on self-group empowerment and group strength through sports. Dr. Rachna Singla, Professor (Horticulture) explained to the women about home garden and cultivation of fruit trees. Dr. Rajni Goyal, Professor (Food Science) gave information about the care and maintenance of fruits and vegetables at home. On the last day of training Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur, in-charge encouraged the farmer women to recognize their skills and take Punjab’s handicrafts such as phulkari, crochet, hand weaving etc. to a commercial level.
