In the framework of the Scheduled Cast Sub Plan, ICAR-Indian Institute Sugarcane Research -Biological Control Center, Pravaranagar organized a one-day farmer training program on ‘Integrated Management of White grubs infesting sugarcane’ at Kamagar Sanskrutik Bhavan in Pravaranagar (MS). A total of 100 (Male-92 and Female 08)SC farmers were selected from the command area of Padmashree Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., Pravaranagar for participation in this training program. The chairman of the sugar factory chaired the programme. At the outset, Dr. Dnyaneshwar Borase, Scientist& I/c welcomed the dignitaries and introduced the Scheduled Cast Sub Plan Welfare Schemes. The battery-operated knapsack sprayer along with training kits were distributed to the beneficiary farmers.
Dr. Yogesh E. Thorat, Scientist, delivered a talk on ‘Integrated Management of White Grubs Infesting Sugarcane’ to the farmers. The leaflet on the same subject was published by the dignitaries. Dr. RasappaViswnathan, Director, ICAR-IISR, Lucknow discussed the role of microbial bioagents in the biological control of white grubs in sugarcane and expressed gratitude to the sugar mill for their cooperation in facilitating the research and outreach programmes of the center. Mr. Kailash Nana Tambe Patil, Chairman, of the sugar factory expressed satisfaction with the participation of cooperative sugar factory members in the training program and requested that more such training programs be organized for the benefit of scheduled cast farmers from the factory command areas. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Cane Manager sugar factory expressing gratitude for the informative training session and efforts taken by the scientific and supporting staff of the center for executing this program and the overwhelming participation of farmers.
