On the occasion of ‘National Youth Day’ celebration in remembrance of 162nd birth anniversary of Yugpurush Swami Vivekananda, Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR), Lucknow organized a National Seminar on “Conservation of Small Native Fishes” today in the “Agricultural Development cum National Seminar” organized from 11-14 January, 2025 at Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Sargachhi. On this occasion, “Capacity Development and Fish Input Distribution Program” was also organized under ICAR-NICRA, CRP-Vaccine and SCRP component in collaboration with Dhanyaganga Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sargachhi, Berhampur, West Bengal.
Chief Guest, Dr. Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Director, NBFGR, Lucknow highlighted the new research and technologies being done in the aquaculture sector. The Director, while addressing the beneficiaries, emphasized on promotion of small and indigenous fish species and urged them to contribute in protecting fish biodiversity. Dr. Sarkar, while discussing the achievements of the Institute, talked about fish conservation and new breeding techniques, which will help the farmers in better production and management of their business.
The program was presided over by Swami Shri Vishwamayanand Ji, President, Ramakrishna Mission. Swami, while addressing all the fish farmers and the beneficiary Scheduled Caste fish farmers, motivated them to focus on social welfare by making good use of the knowledge and grants provided by the Institute.
During the program, Dr. Pradeep Dey, Director, ATARI; Dr. B.N. Paul, Incharge, ICAR-CIFA, RAHARA Centre; Dr. A.K. Das, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore; Dr. Sujoy Mandal, Head of Fisheries Department, DGKVK; Dr. H. Mandakini Devi, Scientist, ICAR-CIFE, Kolkata Centre; Dr. Anutosh Pariya, Scientist; Dr. Vikas Sahu, Technical Officer, National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow were present.
Information on ‘Report Fish Disease (RFD)’ app technology related to fish health and antimicrobial resistance related to fisheries was shared with more than 400 scheduled caste fish farmers who attended the program. Along with this, materials like fish seed, fish feed and related medicines were also distributed to 110 fish farmers to help them in fisheries business.
