A two-day (16-17 September) National Conference was organized by the National Environmental Science Academy (NESA), New Delhi at ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel (NRCC) in collaboration with various institutions including NRCC, Bikaner on the theme ‘Ozone Layer, its Depletion and Impact on Living Beings’. In this seminar, the management and restoration (remediation) of ozone layer was discussed in depth.

Chief Guest, Smt. Vandana Singhvi, Divisional Commissioner, Bikaner said that ozone layer plays the role of a protector to save life on earth from ultraviolet rays of the sun. Human activities are responsible for its depletion, and more urgency must be worked towards the protection of ozone layer so that life can be safe.

Prof. Rajendra Purohit, Principal, Government Dungar Mahavidyalaya, Bikaner said that it is very important to think about the ill-effects of ozone layer and also the protection of ozone layer needs to be accepted as a moral duty.
Dr. R.K. Sawal, Director, NRCC said that the main reason for increasing natural disasters is the depletion of ozone layer. He talked about increasing public participation and awareness to reduce climate change and air pollution through a conference on this burning issue as well as working on climate resilient productivity.
Dr. Artabandhu Sahu, Director, National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bangalore said that global warming and global climate change can be clearly seen at present due to the depletion of ozone layer. Among all the livestock, camel emits very less methane, hence it is an environmentally friendly animal.
Dr. N.K. Sharma, Acharya, Agricultural College, Sri Ganganagar said that at present our entire focus is on agricultural production, whereas there is a need to pay attention to the damage caused by environmental changes and for this, better crop management needs timely attention.
Dr. Jagdish Rane, Director, Central Arid Horticulture Institute, Bikaner, elaborated on the formation, disintegration and effects of ozone layer and also explained the medical use of ozone.
Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Representative, National Environmental Science Academy and Scientist, IARI, New Delhi, put forth the objective of the NESA institution in front of everyone and highlighted the significance of this event.
The conference related compendium, ‘Ancient and new techniques of animal nutrition for increasing productivity in desert areas’ circulation paper and ‘Sustainable Fodder Solutions’ technical bulletin were released. Winners of Best Oral Presentation and Best Post Poster Presentation were awarded.
Dr. Rakesh Ranjan, Principal Scientist, NRCC and Organizing Secretary of the programme presented vote of thanks.
