Pantnagar. 11 February 2025. An Interaction meeting was held with the representatives of St. Petersburg State University of Veterinary Medicine, Russia and University College, Dublin, Ireland under the chairmanship of Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Vice Chancellor of GBPUAT, Pantnagar, in the context of strengthening research and academics. Dr. Lyutik Ekaterina, Chairman International Division from St. Petersburg State University of Veterinary Medicine, Russia along with 10 research students and from University College Dublin (UCD) Ireland Prof. Eileen Gibney, Director, Prof. Frank Monahan, Head of School of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Ms. Surabhi Joshi, Director, South Asia (UCD) participated in the meeting. The Vice-Chancellor welcomed the delegation from Russia and Ireland and expressed happiness over the speedy signing of agreements between the University and important research institutes. He called upon the representatives from Russia and Ireland to thoroughly go through the research and teaching capacity of the University so that the students and scientists of universities of both the countries can get a good opportunity for research and academics. He said that Pantnagar University of Agriculture and Technology is the first agricultural university of the country to receive QS World Ranking. At present, there are a total of 66 public agricultural universities in the country and the rest are covered by private institutions. In the 60s, when the country was struggling with the food problem, then Pantnagar, IARI, New Delhi and PAU, Ludhiana, played pivotal role and there was a significant increase in food grain production and for the contribution made by Pantnagar, it was honoured as the Harbinger of Green Revolution by Nobel Laureates Dr. Norman E. Borlaug. He told that University is well equipped with research and academic facilities namely, a huge library has been established for the students to acquire knowledge in which a large number of books related to various subjects are available. Along with this, books are also available for students in digital form from which students are benefiting. He told that the scientists of the university are continuously working for quality research in research, seed production, farmer-friendly technology and publication. The university has also received approval on many patents for the new research and techniques done by the scientists. The 9 Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the university are providing assistance to the farmers through technology, seeds and other means, taking advantage of which the farmers are increasing their income. Director of International Affairs of Pantnagar University, Dr. H.J. Shiv Prasad appraised the international delegation about the teaching system of the university and the facilities/infrastructure available for research and teaching present in the campus. He also threw light on the MoUs signed by the university with various international institutions and the ongoing activities in the Gyan and Spark projects. Director of UCD, Prof. Yulin and Prof. Frank Monahan apprised about the facilities available in various departments of UCD and Ms. Surabhi Joshi expressed happiness on coming to Pantnagar University and said that ten years ago there were 15 students of Indian origin in UCD, whose number has increased to 1800. Dr. Lyutik Ekaterina of St. Petersburg and all the students expressed happiness on coming to Pantnagar University. In this meeting, Registrar, Comptroller, Dean, Director, Additional Chief Personnel Officer along with officers working under International Affairs, Dr. Anita Arya and Dr. Sneha Dohre were present.
