Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hoshiarpur, hosted a two-day training programme on Natural Farming in the village of Birampur in the Hoshiarpur district on February 9th and 10th, 2024.

Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Bahowal (Hoshiarpur), welcomed the trainees and provided insights into the various ongoing activities of the KVK, emphasizing the importance and scope of Natural Farming for improved human health, soil fertility, and environmental sustainability. He encouraged attendees to consider allocating a portion of their land for Natural Farming practices.

The training featured expert sessions from Dr Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), who delved into various aspects of natural farming and integrated pest management practices tailored for rabi crops. Dr Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), shared valuable insights on value addition, processing of agricultural produce, and tips for quality gur shakkar production.

Er Ashok Kumar, Assistant XEN at PSTCL, Jalandhar, and patron of the Innovative Farmers Association (IFA), Regd., Hoshiarpur, highlighted the decade-long journey and accomplishments of IFA, urging fellow farmers to join hands for the further promotion of natural farming practices.

Sh Narinder Singh, President of the Innovative Farmers Association (IFA), Regd., Hoshiarpur, shared practical experiences of natural farming and provided valuable information on marketing natural and organic produce through platforms like ATMA Kisan Hut and the weekly Safe Food Mandi at Roshan Ground, Hoshiarpur.

Additionally, other progressive natural farmers of the district engaged with the trainees, discussing various components of natural farming such as jeevamrit, beejamrit, mulching (acchadhan), value-added products, and cultivation techniques for pulses.

Sh Balraj Singh, Field Officer from Punjab Agro, enlightened attendees on the certification process for organic farming while providing them with valuable resources such as PAU literature, summer vegetable seed kits, mineral mixture, and uromin licks for dairy animals.
