21 February, 2025. On the second day of the 17th Krishi Vigyan Sammelan being organized at the university, the Chief Guest, Honorable Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated a massive agricultural science exhibition and he visited the stalls set up by various public and private sector institutions in the exhibition along with Vice Chancellor Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan and other officials. Thereafter, he addressed a huge gathering of officials, scientists, students and farmers present in this conference where about three thousand people were present. In his address, he appreciated the relevance of organizing the Krishi Vigyan Sammelan. He thanked the National Agricultural Science Academy for organizing the 17th Krishi Vigyan Sammelan at Pantnagar University established in Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand. He discussed innovations in the field of agriculture and the schemes of the government and said that the Uttarakhand government is committed to the development of the agricultural sector. The state government is running several schemes in the interest of farmers, so that they can increase their income by adopting modern agricultural techniques. He called upon agricultural universities and scientists to work together with farmers, so that innovations can be taken to the grassroots level.
Welcoming the chief guest, the convener of the conference and Vice Chancellor Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan first highlighted the achievements of the university and said that efforts are being made to double the income of farmers through innovation and research in the agricultural sector. He praised the Uttarakhand government for banning the sowing of paddy in the summer season because not only was the groundwater level decreasing due to paddy being planted in summer, but the infestation of pests in paddy was increasing due to continuous sowing of paddy and the environment was getting polluted due to the use of chemicals for its control. Therefore, this ban will stop the decrease in the groundwater level and the pollution in the environment will also be reduced. He also informed that in this ‘Krishi Kumbh’ scientists from 16 countries such as America, Australia, Canada, France, Britain, UK, Germany, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Thailand, Fiji, Morocco, Zambia, Oman and Nepal are participating. Apart from this, representatives of the industry and progressive farmers are also participating.
Progressive farmers were honored during the program. The honored farmers included Vice Chairman of Kisan Aayog, Mr. Rajpal Singh, Mr. Balvinder Singh, Mr. Suresh Rana, Mr. Amrit Pal, Mr. Narendra Mehra and Mrs. Kavita Devi, who have made a significant contribution in the field of agriculture. In the closing ceremony, Director Research and Organizing Secretary Dr. A.S. Nain proposed a vote of thanks. Various technical sessions on 11 topics were organized since morning.
The Chief Guest of the closing ceremony will be Honorable Farmer and Farmers Welfare Minister, Uttarakhand Government, Mr. Ganesh Joshi.
