On the eve of celebrating International Year of Millets 2023, ICAR-NAARM organized six days Skill Development Training Programme on “Value added Products with Millets” for scheduled caste women under SC Sub Plan at SAIRD KVK, Gaddipally, in Suryapet district of Telangana from 07-12th October 2023. A total of 25 scheduled caste Women from Gaddipally, Ponugodu, Keethavarigudem, Kalmalcheruvu & Nereducherla villages of Suryapet district participated in the training programme. Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Principal Scientist & Chairman SCSP ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad addressed the trainees and explained the main aim of the programme and encouraged the participants to be an entrepreneurs by establishing small scale value added millets unit. Suggested to add millet recipes to their daily diet, which improve their health conditions.
Sri B. Lavakumar, Senior Scientist & Head (I/c), KVK Gaddipally explained about the various programmes undertaken by the KVK for the development of Scheduled Castes. He has explained the health benefits of millets and present market demand of the millet products. As part of the programme trainees also took exposure visit to millets processing units. In the valedictory session, trainees displayed their prepared products like ragi biscuits, ragi cake, jowar biscuits, jowar murukulu etc., and as a part of a programme certificates were distributed to trainees along with two Micro ovens each to Gaddipally & Kalmalcheruvu groups & cooking utensils Viz., Murukulu set, Peeler set & Puri sets to all trainees. Earlier, Sri B. Lava Kumar, Senior Scientist and Head (I/C) delivered the welcome address. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks by. Ch. Naresh, Scientist, Horticulture. N. Sugandhi, PA- Home science coordinated the program.
