ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized a skill based capacity building pogramme on “Women Empowerment in Animal Husbandry sector through Women Friendly Technologies” in the Institute Campus during 04-06 March 24. The importance of women friendly technologies in Animal husbandry sector, adoption of latest technologies with women friendly interventions were highlighted during the programme. Several issues and approaches related to role of women in livestock production, livelihood improvement and nutritional security of farm women through dairy, goatery, Poultry and Duckery, empowering farm women through small ruminant and dairy farming, fodder cultivation and conservation along with opportunities for farm women in organized dairy sector were thoroughly discussed among the participants for improving the livelihood security of farm women.
The farm women were explained different farm activities and models developed in livestock sector, enhancing profitability through integrated farming system (SAS model). Practical demonstration and hands on training was imparted to 26 participants (19 women and 7 men) on preparation of balanced ration, chaffing of fodder through machine operated chaff cutter, vaccination of poultry and goats, health care, housing and management of animals and birds during the training programme. During the valedictory function, Dr. Mridula Devi, Director of ICAR-CIWA interacted with all the participants about the impact of the training programme and urged the progressive farm women to implement the women friendly technologies at the grass root level and distributed the certificates to the participants. The programme was coordinated by Dr B. Sahoo and Dr A.K. Panda, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar.
