ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar celebrated World Intellectual Property Day on 26th April 2023 by organizing a National Webinar on “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity” through virtual mode. The meeting began with welcome address by Dr. A. K. Panda, Principal Scientist and OIC (ITMU), ICAR-CIWA in which he also briefed about the webinar. In her opening remarks, Dr. Mridula Devi, Director, ICAR-CIWA emphasized on the importance of celebrating World IP Day, and how IP rights is encouraging innovation and creativity. She further elucidated that equal participation of women and men in the innovation eco-system and in the structures and organization is cardinal to the success of its work and mission. Two eminent speakers; Dr. Poonam Jayant Singh, Senior Scientist, ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow and Dr. Arpita Sharma, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFE Mumbai delivered their talk on “Innovations and Creativity in Science: Thinking out of the Box” and “Gender Perspectives on Indian Patents in Dairy and Fisheries: Towards a More Inclusive Innovation ecosystem” respectively. The presentations were followed by discussion with participants and queries on different aspects of IP. The programme ended by vote of thanks by Dr. A. K. Panda. More than 40 participants comprising Scientists from ICAR-CIWA, AICRP on Women in Agriculture, Senior Research Fellow and Young Professional participated in the meeting.
