Yoga” has been derived from Sanskrit that means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and mind. Yoga is an invaluable ancient Indian practice with numerous benefits to both physical and mental health. It not only unites our body, mind and soul but it is a panacea that prevents and cures ailments, maintains our health, establishes peace, harmony and unity in diversity. ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA) Bhubaneswar celebrated International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2023 with the theme “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which represents our shared desire for “One Earth, One Family, One Future”. The goal of International Yoga Day 2023 is to increase awareness of yoga’s all-encompassing approach to wellness. The programme began with welcome address by Dr. A. K. Panda, Nodal IDY. Dr. Mridula Devil, Director, ICAR-CIWA in her speech highlighted the importance of finding balance in today’s fast-paced, modern lives and encourages physical, mental, and spiritual harmony.
Yoga fosters mindfulness, stress reduction, and overall health and vitality. She advises the staff to practice yoga everyday to reduce stress, keep good health and increase work efficiency. Various Yoga Asanas and Pranayamas were performed by staff as per common yoga protocol under the guidance of Yogacharya Shri.Dinanbandhu Sadangi, Bhubaneswar. All the Scientific, Technical and Administrative staff of ICAR-CIWA were enthusiastically participated in the program. The Expert also answered various queries raised by the staff on the benefits of specific Asanas & Pranayams on physical as well as mental health. The programme was coordinated by Dr. A. K. Panda, Principal Scientist and Nodal IDY of the institute.
