ICAR- CIFT hosted World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2024 (WAAW 2024) under theme “Educate. Advocate. Act now.” from November 18–23, 2023, in Cochin. A series of events were organized to spread awareness about the silent pandemic of AMR and promote preventive measures among students. ICAR-CIFT in collaboration with Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) organized awareness talk on “Antimicrobial Resistance: The Silent Global Pandemic”, a collage competition on the theme “AMR” to encourage creative expression and understanding of AMR-related issues and a quiz competition on AMR to the under graduate and post graduate students of KUFOS on 21st November 2024 at the KUFOS campus.
A awareness lecture on the topic “Antibiotics, AMR, and Its Mitigation Measures” was organized at Seventh Day Adventist School, Kaloor, Ernakulam, Gregorian Public School, Maradu, Cochin and of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, School, Ernakulam. A total of 300 students attended the lecture and engaged actively in the discussions.
All programmes were conducted under the guidance and support of Dr. George Ninan, Director, ICAR-CIFT, Cochin. As a part of the awareness campaign, “Go Blue Day” was observed by the Microbiology, Fermentation and Biotechnology Division staff of ICAR CIFT. This initiative symbolized the global fight against AMR, with staff members donning blue attire to mark their solidarity in raising awareness about AMR.
