ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, organised a goat distribution programme 22nd February 2024 under the Scheduled Tribe Component Programme. Each farmer was provided a pair of male and female Konkan Kanyal goats and 10 Kg feed.
Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, highlighted the STC scheme and how it benefits the farmers. He also briefed the importance of goat farming in coastal areas for sustainable livelihood security of the farmers and the need to breed the animals, increase herd size, and continue goat farming with scientific management practices.
Dr. Shirish D. Narnaware, Section-In-Charge, Animal and Fisheries Science, emphasised scientific rearing and management of goat farming.
During the event, farmers were educated on feed ingredients and concentrate feed mix preparation, and extension folders on goat farming were distributed.
A total of 8 Scheduled Tribe farmers from North and South Goa districts were selected with experience in livestock farming.
