Four weeks In-plant/summer/skill development training programme on “Soil and Water Conservation and Watershed Management” for B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering) students started on 1st July 2024. A total of 32 number of students registered for training. Out of which students 15 are from College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, CCHAU, Hisar, Haryana, 10 students are from College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab and 07 students are from College of Technology and Agricultural Engineering, Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Dr. Manoj Kumar, Scientist (Agril. Engg.) and Course Coordinator welcomed the students and briefed about the course activities. Dr. Pradeep Dogra Pr. Scientist (Agril. Economics) also sensitized the student about problems of soil erosion, land slide and emphasized about its conservation.
Dr. Brij Lal Lakaria, Head of the Centre, informed the students for conserving precious natural resources particularly soil and water which is essential for existence of life on the earth. He explained in detal about the problems of Shivalik region vis-à-vis soil and water erosion. He appreciated the students to opt for training on this important issue. The programme was attended by all the scientists and staff members of the Centre. Thus four weeks training programme has been scheduled to cover all the aspects of soil and water erosion, soil and water conservation measures, watershed management, economics of soil and water conservation, horticultural interventions, agroforestry measures, community organization and institutional development etc. The inaugural programme was ended with formal vote of thanks by Dr. Sharmistha Pal, Principal Scientist (Soils) and Co-coordinator.
