Five students of the first batch of B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture from the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), have excelled in All India Entrance Examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Students, namely Keshav, Tamana, Sonia Devi, Shivdeep Thakur and Jagjit Singh appeared in the ICAR entrance exam from the college and secured 57th, 73rd, 156th, 252nd and 257th the rank, respectively in the general merit. Three students are likely to get admission in the national institutes with junior research fellowship @ Rs 13,000 per month, while another will get National Talent Scholarship @ Rs 5,000 per month.

This examination was conducted at the national level for admission to postgraduate courses in the ICAR Institutes, Central Agricultural Universities and State Agricultural Universities across the country. In agriculture education, this test is considered to be the most prestigious, toughest and highly competitive. In this examination, more than 25,000 students appeared for getting admission in M.Sc. only.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, while congratulating the students, said that being the founder batch, they will act as ambassadors of the college.

Dr MIS Gill, Dean, College of Horticulture and Forestry, said that the college has high expectations from the outshining students to excel at the national level and bring more laurels to their alma-mater. He wished them success in all their future endeavors.

The students during their interaction, said that highly learned and inspiring faculty like Dr Hira Singh from Department of Vegetable Science honed their analytical and critical skills to achieve this milestone. They also appreciated the Dean of the College for his words of encouragement and constant support.
