The Fish farmer’s day celebration and a One-Day Awareness Program on Carp Breeding and Seed Production was organised at Freshwater Fish Farm (FWFF), Balbhadrapuram, ICARCIFE, Kakinada Centre on 10 July 2024. About 50 fish-farmers, members of farm-producer’s organizations, fish hatchery personnel and other stakeholders participated in the program. The members DWCRA of Bikkavolu Mandal, and Faculty of Andhra State Fisheries University also participated in the program. During the program the farmers were informed about the activities of the FWFF Centre. The highlight of the program was an exhibition showcasing the ICAR-CIFE. The participants were informed about the Center’s activities like Selective breeding program of ‘Maha Magur’, seed production of freshwater carps and catfish, nursery rearing and grow out of high value species such as Maha Magur; Osteobrama spp, Freshwater prawns, Snakeheads, and Roopchand. They were also informed about the various training programmes that are organised by the Centre for the benefits of Fish-Farmers. A guided tour was conducted to show the various facilities of the Center like the newly developed laboratories, hatcheries, ponds and the farm bred Maha Magur and the Koi-carp.
During the function four from the region Fish-farmers were felicitated recognizing their contribution to the sector. The program was co-ordinated by Dr. Shamna N, Scientist & In Charge, Dr. Shobha Rawat, Scientist and Mr. Rajeev, Technical staff under the guidance of Dr. Shrinivas Jahageerdar, Nodal officer and Dr. Ravisankar C.N., Director, ICAR-CIFE. Farm bred catla seeds were distributed to selected farmers as part of the program.
