The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized a field day on “Sesame” at village Raipur under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana and the ICAR-ATARI Zone -1, Ludhiana. Around 50 farmers and farm women from the village participated in this programme.
Dr Satbir Singh, Deputy Director, KVK Ropar, informed that the programme was organized to showcase successful performance of the Sesame variety Pb Til No 2. Highlighting the importance of crop diversification, he encouraged the farmers for cultivation of low water demanding oilseed crops.
Dr Urvi Sharma, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology), discussed the management of various insect- pests and diseases affecting the field crops with special emphasis on oilseed crops.
Dr Aparna, Associate Professor (Livestock Production), shed light on the importance of oilseed cakes in the feed of livestock.
Ms Ankurdeep Preety, Assistant Professor (Agroforestry), stressed the need for environment conservation for a sustainable future. A visit to the sesame field of Jagjeet Singh was conducted to encourage the fellow farmers to cultivate sesame crop.
