Under the guidance of Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR Eastern Research Complex, Patna, and Dr. Anjani Kumar, Director, ICAR ATARI, Patna, a two days’ capacity building programme was organized during 13-14 November, 2024 on “Mushroom production technology in low cost mushroom hut in Chhotka Dhakaich village of Buxar, Bihar. This training initiative is a part of promotion of alternate income generation activities for livelihood improvement of small farmers under the project “Development of Zero Hunger and Zero Technology Gap Village through Innovative Intervention.”
Mushroom production was identified as an effective livelihood option in this village and there for low cost mushroom hut was also created for few farmers as a part of on farm demonstration. Mr. Ramkewal, SMS Plant Protection from KVK, Buxar remarked that the mushroom production has all the potential to become source of income generation in rural house hold in unutilized space of home. A total of 25 farmers (including 3 women farmers) participated in this two days training programme. Importance on the scientific cultivation of mushroom production technology was discussed during the interaction with farmers for generating self-employment in rural area. It needs low investment input cost by using wheat and paddy straw which also helps minimization of straw burning problem. Mushroom cultivation required less space, less investment and high return up to 1: 2.5 to 3.0 cost benefit ratio. The participants had hands on experience for preparation of mushroom bags using paddy straw.
All the participants received mushroom spawn, PP bag, formalin, etc as a part of demonstration kit. This training programme aimed to solve the problem of malnutrition and fulfilment of minimizing the technological gap in mushroom production.
