A two-days residential Farmer’s Training cum Exposure visit on “Scientific Cultivation of Kharif crops and Livestock Management for Small Holders” was held during July 23 – 24, 2024 at KVK, Nawada by ICARRCER, Patna under the DSTSEED Project “Sustainable Improvement in Livelihood of Scheduled Caste Community in Meskaur and Sirdala Blocks of Nawada, Bihar”. A total of 40 farmers from four adopted villages i.e Akri Pandey Bigha, Kopin, Janhaul and Chougaon from Sirdala and Meskaur blocks of Nawada participated in this programme. Sh Arvind Kumar, Secretary, Gram Nirman Mandal (NGO) Nawada graced the occasion as Chief Guest and gave emphasis on adopting scientific agricultural practices by farmers under changing climate during his address. He also asked farmers to leave traditional ways of farming and learn new technologies from scientists working in different organizations. Dr Shivani, Principal Scientist, ICAR RCER addressed the farmers and delivered talk on improved methods of kharif cereals and pulses crops.

Earlier, Dr Jaywant Singh, Incharge, KVK, Nawada welcomed all the participants and told them to focus on integrated disease and pest management. Dr Dhiraj Kumar Singh, Sr Scientist, ICAR RCER, Patna and PI outlined the objectives of training and talked about entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities in agriculture and allied sector. Altogether, 9 technical session were conducted consisting of Scientific methods of rice cultivation, IPM & IDM strategies for crop health management, Livestock production & their management, functioning of FPOs, management of vegetables etc. Dr Anirban Mukherjee, Scientist from ICAR RCER, Patna, Dr Dhananjay Kumar, Sh Raushan Kumar and Dr Sashank Shekhar from KVK, Nawada also participated as resource persons in this training. Exposure visit to KVK farm was also organized where farmers learned about integrated farming system, mushroom cultivation, nursery management, vermicomposting and other scientific technologies. Certificates to all farmers were also distributed after completion of training.
