25 October 2024. A four-day training program on ‘Integrating Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture in Food Systems’ is being organized by the Department of Agricultural Communication of the College of Agriculture at the University in collaboration with MANAGE, Hyderabad from 22-25 October 2024. The objective of this program is to raise awareness on the importance of adopting nutrition sensitive practices in agricultural systems and to promote nutrition improvement along with food security.
On the third day of the program on 24 October 2024, the participants visited Bajpur area, where they inspected the farm of progressive farmer Shri Rajvinder Raj. Shri Rajvinder’s apple orchard is equipped with various varieties of apple, plum, peach and white sandalwood trees, which reflects his innovative and scientific approach. In this tour, the farmers got information about the modern agricultural techniques adopted by Shri Rajvinder and the benefits of diversity-based farming. After this, the participants visited the dragon fruit farm of young agripreneur Shri Jatin Singhal in Bajpur itself. Mr. Singhal has developed dragon fruit cultivation as an emerging agribusiness, which provides high nutritional value and is an economically profitable crop for farmers. His initiative inspired the participants to adopt innovations in nutrition-sensitive agriculture. The visit encouraged the participants to develop an understanding on various aspects of nutrition-sensitive agriculture and adopt it in their agricultural practices. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Arpita Sharma Kandpal, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Communication. Mr. Somnath, Dr. Vinita Singh, Ms. Priyanka Patel, Mr. Arvind and all the trainees from other institutes and states were present during the farm visit along with Puja Goswami and Akanksha Joshi, PhD students of Pantnagar University.
