The Deputy Director General (Crop Science), Dr. T. R. Sharma visited ICAR-IGFRI,Southern Regional Research Station, Dharwad on 02-02- 2023. He was accompanied by the Hon’ble Vice chancellor of UAS Dharwad, Dr. P. L. Patil and Director of Research Dr. B. D. Biradar. The team interacted with the scientists and staff of the station and were apprised of the various ongoing research, seed production and extension activities of the station as well as the previous achievements. He also visited the Golden Jubilee Forage Garden, a novel idea muted and conceptualized by him and implemented across the country. They also visited the experimental plots and discussed with the scientists about the facilities and other related issues and ways for further improvement. He has shown keen interest in the forage seed production activities of the station. The activities of the station particularly the varietal development and seed production aspect as well as the outreach programme were appreciated. Dr. Sharma emphasized upon the gap in demand and supply of fodder availability in the country and fully appreciated the role of IGFRI in mitigating the demand. The various issues regarding the facilities sharing, collaborative projects and interaction among the UAS (D), other ICAR RRS were also discussed. He emphasized on multidisciplinary approaches towards solving the problems especially related to fodder and livestock sectors in southern India. The scientists of ICAR-IARI and ICAR-IIPR Regional Stations were also present on this occasion.
