Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, also known as PM-Kisan Yojana, is a government scheme launched by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in February 2019. The aim of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers to help them meet their day-to-day expenses and improve their overall well-being.
Under the PM-Kisan Yojana, eligible farmers are granted a direct income support of Rs. 6,000 per year in three equal instalments of Rs. 2,000 each. The amount is credited directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. The scheme covers all farmers who own up to 2 hectares of land. The first installment of the scheme was released on December 1, 2019, and the subsequent instalments are scheduled to be released every four months.
To avail the benefits of the PM-Kisan Yojana, farmers need to register themselves on the official PM-Kisan portal. They can also visit the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) to get themselves enrolled in the scheme. The government has also established helpline numbers to assist farmers in the registration process.
The PM-Kisan Yojana has been widely appreciated for the direct financial assistance it provides to farmers, especially during times of agricultural distress. The scheme has helped alleviate the financial burden on small and marginal farmers, allowing them to invest in agriculture-related activities and improve their overall productivity.
Despite its numerous benefits, the PM-Kisan Yojana has faced some criticism for its exclusion of tenant farmers, sharecroppers, and farmers who do not own land. Critics argue that the scheme should be more inclusive and cover all categories of farmers to ensure equitable distribution of benefits.
Overall, the PM-Kisan Yojana has been instrumental in providing much-needed financial support to farmers across the country. It represents the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector in India.
