ICAR-Central Goat Research Institute, Makhdu celebrated World Goat Day in the institute on 21st August, 2023. The chief guest of this program was Dr. Habibar Rahman, Regional Representative South Asia International Animal Research Institute and Former Deputy Director General (Animal Science), Indian Agricultural Research Parishad, New Delhi, in the inaugural session of the program highlighted the role and importance of livelihood and nutrition protection through goat rearing in the livelihood of marginal, small farmers and landless laborers in India on World Goat Day. He called upon the scientists to focus on research work towards creating new vaccines to reduce the economic losses caused by diseases. He stressed on promoting women empowerment through goat rearing. On this occasion, the Director of the Institute, Dr. Mani Kumar Chetley informed all the people present in the meeting about the research work and extension activities being carried out by the Institute. This program was conducted by Dr. Alok Kumar, Head of the Department of Animal Health. On this occasion, the 103rd National Scientific Goat Rearing Training Program was also inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Habibar Rehman, 65 participants from 11 states participated in this training program and the progressive goat readers from different parts of India achieved success. The story was shared with the attendees present at the programme. The chief guest of the program honored the progressive goat herders and also provided necessary materials to 50 farmers and goat herders of Mathura district under the Scheduled Tribe Development Project. On this occasion, Dr. Anupam Krishna Dikshi, Principal Scientist and Dr. Arvind Kumar, Principal Scientist were present.
