Under the Tribal Sub Plan, the Division of Animal Sciences, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair in collaboration with ICAR-KVK, Car Nicobar organized various capacity-building programs in Nicobar Islands. Dr. P.A Bala, Senior Scientist, and Dr. R. R Alyethodi, Scientist of Animal Science Division, ICAR-CIARI Port Blair, interacted with farmers on scientific rearing of different livestock and poultry species. In this framework, an awareness program was conducted for Mahila Kisan farmers at ICAR-KVK, Car Nicobar. A total of 20 Mahila farmers participated in this program. Training and demonstrations on livestock feeding and health management were conducted in Perka, Malacca and Chukchuchu villages. A total of 155 farmers attended the programme. Use of FAMACHA card for anemia detection in livestock was demonstrated. Different inputs important for livestock and poultry rearing were also distributed. The chief captain, Tribal council, and headman of different villages expressed their gratitude to Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair for the programs and inputs.
