“Be it extreme winters or summers, be sensitive to farmers’ trials and tribulations in the extremely challenging phase of agriculture,” said Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), to the extension functionaries while presiding over the State Level Training Planning Workshop for 2024-25 here today.
In his remarks, Dr Bhullar observed that the entire North India was grappling with the icy-cold winters and dense fog. “It is crucial for the field level functionaries to be ever -ready to tackle the farmers’ agri-related woes. Remain in contact with them, and visit as well as survey their fields for insect-pest and disease management, if need be,” he advised. About trainings, he said, “This University strives on farmers’ long-lasting trust.” “The training programmes have proved to be economically rewarding for the rural and urban dwellers, and that no effort should be spared in carrying forward this rich agricultural legacy,” he added. Dr Bhullar suggested natural resource conservation, crop diversification, subsidiary occupations, entrepreneurship development and income enhancement as key areas for trainings.
The representatives of the line departments from the Punjab government; PAU’s Directorate of Extension Education, Skill Development Centre, various departments and the Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Amritsar, Bathinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Mansa, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, Pathankot, Patiala, Ropar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Sangrur districts made detailed presentations and shared meticulous annual training planning. Besides, they delved upon field demonstrations to be carried out at farmers’ fields in various Punjab districts.
Dr GPS Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, welcomed the dignitaries and the extension scientists from across Punjab.
Later, Dr Manoj Sharma, Principal Scientist (Animal Husbandry), proposed a vote of thanks.
