Bihar Agricultural University is celebrating its foundation day. The two-day conference organized on this occasion,5 th August “Innovations and Innovators at the Grassroots in Transformation of Agricultural Food Systems”, concluded today. On this occasion, Hon’ble Minister of Rural Development, Government of Bihar, Shri Shravan Kumar participated as the chief guest. Before the start of the closing ceremony, the Hon’ble Minister planted a tree and inaugurated the Language Lab. The Hon’ble Minister visited the stalls set up by the innovative farmers and observed various innovations made for agriculture and related businesses.
The closing ceremony began with the national anthem. Other guests who participated in this ceremony included Hon’ble MLA of Gopalpur, Shri Narendra Kumar Neeraj, Hon’ble MLA of Pirpainti, Shri Lalan Kumar, Hon’ble MLA of Sultanganj, Lalit Narayan Mandal, Hon’ble Legislative Councilor Dr. N.K. Yadav, besides other distinguished guests. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. D.R. Singh welcomed all the honorable guests by giving them bouquets and symbols. In his presidential address, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor congratulated all the scientists and workers on the 15th Foundation Day of the University and also appreciated the contributions of all the previous Vice Chancellors in the development of the University. He especially remembered the first Vice Chancellor Dr. Mewalal Chaudhary and said that the only person behind the establishment of the University and this huge structure is the first Vice Chancellor Dr. Mewalal Chaudhary. Along with this, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor thanked the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar for bringing the University into existence and taking it to this height. He also thanked the journalists and media personnel for spreading the achievements of the University to the country and the world.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, while highlighting the progress of the University, said that BAU has obtained 14 patents within the last 16 to 18 months, which is a matter of pride in itself. He said that the University is making a special contribution in employment generation, the students passing out from here are getting better employment immediately, while the University is also continuously generating employment by making the youth self-reliant. In this way, the university is helping the youth overcome the job seeking mentality and make them job giving. He discussed the contributions of Sabour in the field of horticulture in the entire country. He said that BAU has the complete data of which farming can be done in which district of Bihar and new varieties are being developed accordingly.
Hon’ble Rural Development Minister Shri Shravan Kumar said that today the entire state is benefiting from the research, education and extension activities of the university. He appreciated the work done by the university to encourage innovation among farmers. Honorable MLA of Pirpainti Shri Lalan Kumar highlighted the opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship in natural and organic farming. He also drew attention to the increasing impact of arsenic and fluoride in the areas around Bhagalpur and suggested finding ways to deal with it. He expressed happiness about the road, rail, power generation center and other proposed schemes in Bhagalpur and especially Pirpainti and said that now only a food park is needed which will help the farmers to process their fruits and vegetables. Gopalpur’s Honourable MLA Shri Narendra Kumar Neeraj said that if the farmer progresses, the entire society, state and country will progress. Sultanganj’s Honourable MLA Shri Lalit Narayan Mandal expressed concern over the challenges of agriculture in the changing environment. He called for making all the research of the university farmer-friendly and dedicating it to the farmers as soon as possible.
Scientists, employees, students and farmers who did excellent work were felicitated in the programme. Several books published by the university were also released, prominent among which are “Agricultural Food System’s Promoter”, “Sankalp se Samridhi ka Aadhar”, “Badhte Kadam” and “Krishak Sandesh”. The Honourable minister inaugurated the film based on natural farming which has been acted by the students of the university and made by BAU Media Centre.
The welcome address was given by the Director of Extension Education Dr R K Sohane and the vote of thanks was given by the Dean Agriculture Dr A K Sah. On this occasion, all the deans, directors, scientists and employees of the university were present.
